Going for a Ride on the Day of Hatred

This picture was taken yesterday, April 17. Originally known as “Liberation Day,” April 17 marked the fall of Phnom Penh to the forces of the Khmer Rouge in 1975. Clearly, the majority of the population now has no reason to celebrate such an occasion. However, as observed earlier on this very blog, Cambodians never turn down a chance to party. So rather than lose a holiday, they have changed April 17 from “Liberation Day” to “Day of Hatred.”

Here Emily is trying her hand at herding cattle on bicycle. She put the Cambodians to shame.
